Malaysia to Host World Tourism Day and Conference 2025

Melaka will become the focus of the world when it is selected as the host for World Tourism Day (WTD) and World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025, which will take place from September 27 to 29, 2025. With the theme "Tourism & Sustainable Transformation," this program is organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) and the Melaka State Government.

Melaka As a Global Sustainable Tourism Hub

The selection of Melaka as the hosting location is evidence of international recognition of this state's capability as a world-class tourism destination. With its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Melaka offers a unique combination of history, culture, and modern innovation, making it an ideal destination to highlight sustainable tourism.

"Tourism & Sustainable Transformation"

This world-class event carries a theme relevant to today's challenges: "Tourism & Sustainable Transformation." This theme emphasizes the important role of the tourism sector in supporting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable transformation.

As an annual event that began in 1980, World Tourism Day aims to raise global awareness about the importance of tourism as a driver of economic, social, and cultural development. Together, the World Tourism Conference complements it by providing a platform for global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and find innovative solutions to current tourism challenges.

Benefits to the Country and the World

The event is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants from within and outside the country, including global tourism leaders, policymakers, academics, and media. Additionally, it also opens opportunities for Malaysia, particularly Melaka, to showcase tourism innovations and culture to a global audience.

Strengthening Malaysia's Image on the World Stage

As the host country, Malaysia has a unique opportunity to highlight its commitment to sustainable tourism while promoting the country's attractions to the world. Through strategic cooperation with UNWTO and international partners, this event will be a platform to shape the future of a more sustainable and inclusive global tourism sector.
